Bellydancers of Color Association
(BOCA) was founded by Dr. Sunyatta Amen to celebrate the
sister/brotherhood, strength and beauty of people of color in relation
to belly dance and other traditional forms of movement & healing.
OUR MISSION is to:
Build strong and healthy bonds among dancers of color through networking opportunities.
Enlighten
members to the historically accurate roots and purposes of belly dance
as a healing form of movement. Thus, dispelling long held myths and
misconceptions that have resulted in a distortion of this ancient dance
form.
Enlighten members to the history and impact that people of color have made in the world of dance.
Encourage holistic fitness through dance mind, body and spirit within all age groups from youth to the elderly.
Assert realistic body images.
Commit to the preservation of bellydance and other forms of multicultural expression.
Provide continuing education through the Annual Movement & Wellness Conference, Workshops, Seminars and ongoing outreach.
